My feminism has its roots in disgust. Disgust for what we have allowed to happen and justified so far in the society. Rape (marital rape) is normal and legal; Violence (Domestic) has a social currency; in fact, it is considered disciplinary act and some even consider it a duty of a Man.


A murder of infants and newlywed - though not legal and popularly acceptable- is not uncommon.


Infants drowned in river: In a village, a family has two daughters and two sons. Daughters are elder. The gap between younger daughter and elder son is more than a decade.

In the duration of the decade, the mother in the family became pregnant more than once. What happened to the children then? Rumour has it, on the way back from the hospital, infants were drowned in one of the tributaries of Ganga.


Two infants burnt: Another family in another village. I happened to be in that village at that time. The family already had a daughter and claimed could not afford anymore and the mother was expecting a child any moment. I was asleep by the time news came. When I woke up the next day and inquired I was told that the child was born dead. I must have been very young then - around 12 years old.


A year after this incident again the family has another dead child. I got curious. What I found out was that both the infants were given sedatives and burnt.
